That's So Gay

Slavery is over! Women have the vote! So, we have equal rights now, right? Think again. The U.S is guilty of witholding civic rights from its homosexual citizens. In fact, homosexuals experience hostility and are marginalized in nearly every aspect of life.
In my paper, That's So Gay, I talk about the legislation, institutions, and environments that are most harmful to the gay community. I use story-telling to draw the reader in, evoke pity by discussing the constitutional rights withheld from homosexuals, and instill fear  by informing the reader of the future the Republican Party of Texas has planned for the gay community--such as calling for the immediate repeal of the Hate Crimes Act. I use vivid language, allusions to racism, and harsh, negative adjectives to aid the subject matter in affecting the reader's emotions.  Finally, I try to guide readers' focus a few years forward, when we will look back on our treatment of this minority group with regret and disgust, as we do so many minority groups, and end by asking them to spread the word.
